I feel you man, I do. Let me see the proper way to bring this.. it's a FIGHT! You said it yourself he's a FIGHTER. I don't disagree with you, but look at it this way. Soto didn't get up and say "Ya know, I think I will be shitting blood for a month, and I see 12 of you". His corner stopped it.
Okay, first you say that you DON't disagree with me, but then you go back and agree with Soto's corner stopping the fight. If you go back and look, he didn't even respond to his corner when they were checking on him after the knockdown. Just because a guy doesn't verbalize the fact that he's had enough, doesn't mean that they aren't ready to call it a night. Remember, body language is the strongest language.

More power to Victor, for I guess giving up in a fight he could have won, I just said 1 more round, not 3. That last ditch effort, you know championship quality digging deep to get that victory. After the imaginary win he could have said, that guy was a beast, had my jaw broke, but he wasn't cut from the same cloth as me, a champion.
Yes he could have possibly won, but who said that he was on his way to winning the fight anyway? Was there any guaranteed evidence? From what I saw, he was hitting Lopez with some good stuff, and Lopez wasn't budging every time. Lopez was giving it waaaay better than he was taking it, which made it a close fight, and the tough got going for Ortiz. Let's not start the "imaginary" stuff...no need to do that. One more round could've been the end of his career. Fighting with hurt/broken hands is one thing, being that it isn't the intended target, but his face was bound to get hit again, especially since he couldn't get away from Lopez' left hook.
Ali is considered the Greatest of All Time and the best champion ever, but how fucked up is his condition nowadays? I want to consider guys like Mayweather, Pacquiao, Marquez, Barrera, Morales (to name a few) as the greatest fighters ever, but at what cost? No one wants to see these guys stuttering and delayed when they get older. What in the hell does that prove when your faculties are pissed away?

I was pissed when Popo quit against Diaz, pissed when Duran No Mas'd against Leonard. Proud when Mayweather hit Hernandez with that uppoercut, shattered his hand, and kept fighting, elated when Abraham fought with a broken jaw against the uber-hard hitting Miranda.
You're bringing up these old fights when guys "hung in there", but remember, back in the days, if guys were fighters...thats ALL they were. There was no “million dollar paydays” with Al Haymon as your manager, against a tomato can. Ever wonder why those guys fought so much? Yeah Duran quit against Hearns, what can we do?
When Mayweather hurt his hand against Hernandez, he still had one hand to fight with, big deal. You make it seem like he came back and knocked the guy out with a shattered hand, he practically ran for the rest of the fight. Hell if you look at it, Cotto quit in the Margarito fight, he took a knee didn't he? Nobody truly know if Toney's gloves were loaded, since they were 8 oz gloves and he was able to throw with a bit more speed. But hey, Cotto is this fuckin' HOF warrior to the public...let's not forget that he ran for the rest of the Pacquiao fight, until he was stopped. Hell, Morales quit in the 3rd Pacquiao, right? Weight drained or not, he was supposed to tough it out, right? Barrera basically gave up in the first Pacquiao fight, right? These guys are still considered legends, correct?

Maybe it's just me, but this is boxing. I hit you, it hurts, you hit me back, it hurts, somewhere in there.. there's a chance for shit to be broken. Do you quit, or tough it out for "1 more round"?
Sometimes real champions only need one more round. If it wasn't this way.. why do we even watch the sport, I mean it's the paingame, people get broken and battered it's to be expected.. but tapping out before even giving yourself one more shot.. fuck man, I couldn't live MY life that way. But again, maybe it's just me.
Point is, you cant make excuses for some fighters and bash others...you cant truly have it both ways. This "1 more round" stuff that you're going by, is ridiculous. It's funny that a guy's corner is smarter than the average fan, who just wants to see two dudes beat each other's organs out. I've seen street fights where guys showed too much heart and took that "1 last punch" that they shouldn't have, and they're eternally suffering injuries due to a 45 second scrap that he was supposed to "have heart" in.
Truthfully, if you were actually paying attention in the fight, Garcia asked Victor about 2 or 3 rounds prior to the 9th if he was okay", so Im sure the injury took place before the 9th. So, it would be a good idea to pay attention what's really happening, because as far as Im concerned, the broken jaw happened BEFORE the end of the 9th...so did he "tough it out" or not?
Why do YOU watch the sport? If you wanna see guys get cracked up, then go back to MMA where they hug, wrestle, and elbow the shit out of each other. It's the paingame, but why take more pain than your body already endures while training and getting through a relatively easy fight? Those dudes do sustain and sometimes come into the fight with injuries, ya know?
Again, it's cool to be a fan of contact sports and have a certain level of expectations, but by all means, be rational about it. Again, you're excusing the quit sessions of some fighters, but give other fighters shit for it.
To think about it, people are bringing up great fighters like, since Ortiz threw in the towel last Saturday. Think about it this way, when Ali's name was brought up any other time, did Victor's name ever scroll through your memory bank? More than likely not, so need to bring up his name now.
