but there are no good fights on the horizon! wtf!?!?!? sad.gif

i have to wait til april!?

I agree here Professor. The year typically starts off slow, but this year has been a clusterfuck.

There's been a lot of fights that looked good on paper and the headlines, but fuck-all has actually happened thus far. To make it worse, we have this Mayweather nonsense pulling "fans" out of the ground like the fuckin' Thriller video.

Seems like these ballsack fighters are talking big as if they're built like transformers, but they seem to be built up like Mr. Potato Head or Humpty Dumpty or some shit this year. I wanna ask these guys if they're training to fight a human being or an actual fuckin' transformer. Is there something in the air???

If they cough or sneeze, they're injured, and the fight is off. Hell, just when I leaned on FNFs and ShoBox for my boxing fix, Joel Diaz just conveniently gets injured before this bout on FNFs tomorrow.

This shit looks bad man, real bad. Floyd has a pubic's hair of time left to pick an opponent and build a fight, one of which anybody hardly knows, and the other is unknown with one fuckin' arm. Who'da thunk boxing would start out in such a fecal-like manner. dntknw.gif

PS: Excuse my rant, I tend to get a kick out it from time to time. Label me an over-emotional boxing fan with purpose, lol. What's that purpose? Who knows. As Bnoles4life would say, "we're all getting pumpfaked here". laugh.gif

Had a similar lament earlier today. What a muddy start to the boxing year, indeed! I've yet to get really excited about any matchup and some of the recent fights have been either uninspiring, a complete mismatch or fluke-ish. And the few upcoming fights I was looking forward to: Garcia/Judah, Alexander/Brooks, Banks/Mitchell have been postponed or whatever (who knows) with some truly suspect injuries. I mean its almost surreal the frequency of these postponements of late. Smh.

Please let nothing happen to Broner or Reese in the next 2 weeks. May they both be sequestered in log cabins in the deep woods until the weigh-in! AND please let Reese present a challenge to Broner for at least six rounds or at the very least bring out a virtuoso performance from him that inspires my belief that he might just be the second coming of Floyd Mayweather after all. Thank you lord. Amen.

As for Floyd's bait and switch antics; my mischievous/rebellious side is rather enjoying it. It annoys me that Floyd can't sneeze without these penny-click wannabes writing an article about it...or that for months, they've reported with aplomb that Guerrero was his next opponent, as if contracts had been signed and Floyd had made an announcement. I like how they're all scrambling now to not look like bigger idiots...Dan Raphael has given me much laughter in the past couple days on his twitter: "I call BS on @floydmayweather...I do not believe he's fighting Alexander...it will be @Ghostbing." As he secretly sweats and prays FMJ doesn't make him eat those words by actually fighting Alexander...or someone else (still got fingers crossed for that May/JMM Dos). =)

Anyway....I'd like to segue into a mini-rant of my own: Nonito Donaire is now officially on my hated boxers list right along side Robert Guerrero, Karl Frotch, and honorary member Joshua Clottey. Someone please tell Donaire to shut up and fight someone of relevance. This guy has the biggest ego for someone who hasn't even done anything yet. We can thank the HBO cheerleaders and boxing "media" for helping to elevate his already high opinion of himself. I am ever convinced that Donaire nor Arum (for slightly differing reason) wanted any parts of Mares. And Donaire definitely wants no parts of Rigo.

If he doesn't fight Rigo in April...he stays on my hate list for life! Because that's a fight I want to see (one I think Donaire on size/reach alone should win) and I'm convinced he will weasel out of. But we'll see.

I agree. This year has been absolutely horrendous. The fights were so-so to begin with and now it seems like everyone is pulling out of them. Maybe it'll be a blessing in disguise. I remember last year there were TONS of potential big time fights that were supposed to happen and injuries derailed those, only for some underdog to spoil the party. Maybe the opposite will happen. Maybe these injuries will lead to the big time fight. I don't know. I'm grasping at straws trying to find some positive in this. I'm dying over here. Every Saturday night I look at my guide for HBO and Showtime like "WTF another Sat night with no Boxing?". I miss you boxing. "I'm mess without you...I miss your scent. I miss your musk. "

Wth, why would anyone hate the cobra? He's a bad ass. Plus he a part of one of the most anticipated rematches of the year the guy hardly ever takes a easy fight and its hardly ever boring.

Isn't ishida at 154?

And I've said it before kirkland has no chin, one straight and he's on his ass

ishida just fought pirov at 160 in his last fight. ishida did drop and beat kirkland before anyone else.

kinda of a let down? good things come to those who wait I guess. I wish boxing was like football, on every weekend. urghh

I'm an optimist so I will wait until the last quarter of the year before I rule this out but I do agree that there isn't any great fights on the horizon as of this moment, it appears that the best are avoiding the best for now because all or most of them are simply trying to ensure that they remain with their belts/titles for the remainder of the year (they don't want to run the risk of losing too early).

I know things will pick up starting in May and then onto just before Christmas.

Anyone that doesn't appreciate Carl Froch and his fights has to be a hater...Seriously? He fights all comers, no excuses...AND his fights are exciting and fun to watch...

And someone that has no idea how to spell his name makes me question how much they actually follow the sport...

The Cobra is legit and I cannot wait to see him and Kessler squared up again...Will be a great fight

Agreed, 'Dre got robbed in England...Admittedly, it was a bit of a boring fight from what I remember...As much as I love seeing "boxers" and hate people saying "he ran"...He kinda ran around against Froch, and he did not necessarily need to....

Also, all the hate on the Ghost is stupid. I have followed him for YEARS, he is a damn good fighter...Do I think he will beat Floyd? NO. But I do expeft a good scrap, and Robert will make it a bit difficult...To be honest, I would rather see Guerrero vs Money over any other fight that Floyd could take at WW...The ghost will at least make him uncomfortable and make a good account of himself...

I liked Robert just fine, Prof, until he and his publicist began their Mayweather campaign. He made a total ass of himself begging for a fight for over a year while literally doing nothing to earn it. Berto was a step in the right direction...but what's extra crazy is that now that he has the fight he's been begging for within reach, he's balking at 2.5 million. Smh. Makes it seem like he doesn't actually expect/want to win and is looking for a big payday (not that I'm against a person wanting to earn as much as they can...key word being 'earn')

Well label me a hater, because I have zero appreciation for Karl Frotch. I don't particularly find him fun or exciting to watch and I've heard him make plenty of excuses in his two loses. So I guess you and I disagree...and that's the beauty of opinion...you're free to have yours and I mine. Makes for a lovely world.

And someone that has no idea how to spell his name makes me question how much they actually follow the sport... -- This has got to be one of the silliest things I've ever read. Now, had your argument been that my misspelling of Karl Frotch's name caused you to question my knowledge of the boxer, then that would have made sense. But your statement that my spelling/misspelling of a boxers name makes you question my knowledge of a sport...well that makes me question your critical thinking abilities...js.

Anyway, we'll agree to disagree on appreciating Karl. But we can both agree that Frotch/Kessler II is worth the watch.

I'm looking forward to this fight. I think Hops has one more great performance left in him, and Cloud's just the right style for him. But as much as I appreciate Bernard and what he's brought to the sport...I'm ready to see him call it a day. Frankly, while I think he can look great against TC...TC also has the kind of power that can get Hopkins hurt if age catches up to him.

I'm looking forward to that fight too. It's an interesting fight imo. But then again, right about now, any fight interests me...be it a street fight a sparring session. The lack of boxing these first few months is definitely annoying to me. I feel like I'm going thru withdrawal and I need my boxing fix
