Full Version: The Shocking Problem of Commissions Using Unqualified Doctors At Ringside

A really pathetic situation,

Most well-known commissions have decent doctors who are committed to the safety of the fighter. For all the criticism that the WBC gets, they, the British Boxing Board of Control, and the Nevada State Athletic Commission are very good. California is also excellent. However, who can forget the tragic Greg Page-Dale Crowe fight, where they not only had an unlicensed doctor at ringside, but did not have proper medical equipment? And the famous Terry-Norris-Luis Santana fight with Norris DQ'd in Mexico from a rabbit punch, and the visiting "doctor" putting his finger to Santana's chest along with that beat up Army cot that they put Santana on, almost dropping him. Ferdie Paccheco was livid and rightly so during the Showtime telecast. The doctor was literally doing nothing with Santana motionless on the floor.

Fightnews has released a story about another recent fight that took place where a retired doctor was on some commission and did not even have the basic equipment to tend to his fighters cuts!

Despicable, nothing less than unprofessional if a licensed commission can't get a qualified medical official with all that money going around. This is why I believe boxing needs a better checks and balance type system that spreads to everyone and even fans.

And this year the underbelly of this shit really showed in a couple of televised fights. Both on Hbo o believe where the Russian fighter went unattended for a looong time and ended up in a coma and in the kirkland tapia fight the medical system in place for boxing really failed that kid, as well as his corner
truth
Its truly sad i agree they need better checks and balances it seems their motivation for exciting fights and money is a major problem so much that they bash the sweet science from guys like rigo ward and Mayweather its all politics and until they change the mindset will witness more tragedy in the ring
