"Training is going great. I just cannot wait now to get in the ring
if you want to make this a career and reach the pinnacle of it, then it's no secret where you have to come. If you want to play European football, soccer, then you have to go to Europe. You have to go to Italy, Spain or England. But for boxing, you have to be here in North America in the States
I've been boxing ever since I was little. I have a great amateur background and it's where I want to be. I want to be known around the world and I want to please
I hope all of the fans follow me and I will definitely not disappoint," stated undefeated welterweight contender Phil Lo Greco, who talked about his upcoming US debut on the undercard of next weekend's rematch between Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson. Check out what else he had to say!
PC: I know you are anxious to make your North American debut. How has training been for your April 28th fight?
PLG: Training is going great. I just cannot wait now to get in the ring.
PC: You recently signed with Golden Boy Promotions. How did that signing come about?
PLG: My manager and promoters have a great relationship with Golden Boy. A couple of years ago, I met them in Hungary at a convention and I been in touch with them ever since, and when I decided to make the move to the States, we decided it should be with them and it was.
PC: You are an undefeated fighter. You have been doing your thing all over the world, but how important was it for you to make this move to the States to try and reach the top of this boxing game?
PLG: Well, it's very important if you have goals. If you are just a fighter that does this as a hobby or whatever, then maybe not, but if you want to make this a career and reach the pinnacle of it, then it's no secret where you have to come. If you want to play European football, soccer, then you have to go to Europe. You have to go to Italy, Spain or England. But for boxing, you have to be here in North America in the States. It has such an unbelievable history.
PC: Your Golden Boy and North American debut is on the undercard of the Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson rematch. Do you feel any pressure being on a card of such significance?
PLG: Nah, I've been boxing ever since I was little. I have a great amateur background and it's where I want to be. I want to be known around the world and I want to please.
PC: For the fans who will be watching you for the first time, what can they expect from you on the 28th?
PLG: Excitement. I try to be the best that I can and hopefully that leads to some exciting and thrilling fights.
PC: You are in the welterweight division, which will need some new blood soon because a lot of movement has been going on. Is this the division you plan on making your mark in?
PLG: 147 pounds is a great weight class for me. I've been at this weight since I was 16 years old, so it's been 11 years. I'm very comfortable there, so definitely 147 pounds is the weight class that I want to campaign at.
PC: Are things different here in the States for you in terms of boxing or is it pretty much what you are used to?
PLG: Nothing is different. I don't feel like a foreigner at all because I've been here so many times. I got relatives, family, and lots of friends in New Jersey, the New York area, and Boston. I feel like I am at home. I feel like I belong here and this is the place I will be. I don't feel uncomfortable at all. I actually feel super comfortable; more than I ever been.
PC: I look forward to speaking with you more; best of luck to you on the 28th. Is there anything you want to say in closing?
PLG: Thanks so much for the interview. I appreciate it; much love. I hope all of the fans follow me and I will definitely not disappoint.
