"I want to apologize to all my fans and viewers who watched 24/7 last night. I wasn't pleased with this weeks episode of 24/7," stated Floyd Mayweather, who notified his fans via Twitter that he was none too happy about episode 3 of HBO's "24/7 Mayweather/Cotto", the all-access reality series following the undefeated pound-for-pound champion and WBA jr. middleweight champion Miguel Cotto as they prepare for their May 5 Cinco de Mayo showdown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The episode, which premiered Saturday night, showed glimpses of Mayweather giving back to the community, talked about his relationship with his uncle and trainer, Roger Mayweather, and featured some long-awaited trash talk, as he took a few shots at Cotto for his preference of sharing a bed with close friend Bryan Perez during training camp. In fact, with the exception of HBO once again focusing on Cotto's loss of his father 2 years ago, I thought it may have been the best episode of the series thus far. Mayweather, however, didn't see it that way.
"Me and my film team are providing Bentley Weiner with exciting content which she is not using," Mayweather explained on his Twitter page. "We really needed the producers from Mayweather-Hatton 24/7 to come back to HBO give the fans and viewers more excitement." I have to admit, I'm extremely curious to know the content that Mayweather and the Money Team have been providing that we haven't seen. As is usual for the 24/7 series, Floyd Mayweather essentially makes the entire show, which is definitely the case case this go around considering that the soft-spoken and quiet Cotto has offered very few sound bites. In fact, Cotto's trainer, Pedro Luis Diaz, has probably been featured on the show more than Cotto himself.
All things considered, I definitely haven't been disappointed with the series, but knowing that Mayweather says there's better content they could be providing, I certainly hope we get to see some of it in the final episode. If not, maybe they can show some bonus footage during the special replay of the fight the following weekend, much like they did for Mayweather vs. Ortiz.
