Sources have informed us that the highly-anticipated rematch between jr. welterweight champion Lamont Peterson and former champion Amir Khan will indeed be cancelled due to Peterson testing positive for an anabolic steroid. Members of the media are currently on hold waiting for the start of a conference call, where Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is expected to make an announcement regarding details of the positive test result.
Peterson is currently in the process of filing an appeal with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, but from what we're told, his license is expected to be suspended. Furthermore, according to our sources, in Peterson's appeal of the VADA testing results, he allegedly admitted to taking whatever substance caused the positive result as far back as November, which is obviously prior to the first fight with Khan, which took place in December. Word is that the first bout may be changed to a No Contest and Peterson will be stripped of the titles, which would promptly be returned to Khan.
Keep it glued to FightHype.com as more details emerge once the conference call begins.
