KEVIN CUNNINGHAM: "PAULIE NEEDS TO STOP LYING...EVERYONE I KNOW FROM BROOKLYN BACKS UP THE SHIT THEY TALK"

By David Kassel | May 15, 2012
KEVIN CUNNINGHAM:

"I was on someone else's Twitter and saw what Paulie had responded, saying Devon ducked him, and someone sent me an email saying Pauile responded to a Twitter saying Devon ducked him and chose to fight Maidana. I found that kinda funny because who in the right mind would duck Paulie Malignaggi and fight Maidana? This man is delusional. Then he went on and said Devon would've made more money fighting him than Maidana. The reason Devon couldn't fight him was because the networks didn't want to buy him. Paulie needs to stop lying to the fans, and if he doesn't want to fight Devon, just man up and say, 'I don't want to fight Devon.' Man up and don't make all these accusations. Cut all the bullshit," stated Devon Alexander's world-class trainer Kevin Cunningham, who reached out to FightHype.com after reading some of Paulie Malignaggi's recent comments on Twitter. You don't want to miss what he had to say. Check it out!

DK: Kevin, I see you've been reading Paulie Malignaggi's Twitter page.

KC: Actually, I was on someone else's Twitter and saw what Paulie had responded, saying Devon ducked him, and someone sent me an email saying Pauile responded to a Twitter saying Devon ducked him and chose to fight Maidana. I found that kinda funny because who in the right mind would duck Paulie Malignaggi and fight Maidana? This man is delusional. Then he went on and said Devon would've made more money fighting him than Maidana. The reason Devon couldn't fight him was because the networks didn't want to buy him. Paulie needs to stop lying to the fans, and if he doesn't want to fight Devon, just man up and say, "I don't want to fight Devon." Man up and don't make all these accusations. Cut all the bullshit.

DK: Has there been any talks between anyone at Golden Boy or Al Haymon, or just with Paulie about making the fight yet?

KC: No, there hasn't been very many discussion as of now. Right now, were just chilling out getting back in the gym and getting in the groove of things. Right now, I'm training Sakio Bika for his June 2nd fight in California against Dyah Davis, and Devon is training light and we're seeing how things are going to work out, but I'm not gonna sit back and let him lie to the fans and make accusations. He talks all this shit, wearing t-shirts saying Devon is my bitch; all this disrespectful stuff. Devon is the type of person who gets along with everybody, but Paulie is one person he really doesn't like. The beef is there, the beef is real, and the fight should happen. It makes sense because it's there. Don't make shit up. Keep it real for the fans. The networks didn't want Paulie. Now that Devon looked great against Maidana and Paulie has a title, the fight is worth something. I just don't like seeing guys make up lies.

DK: There have been rumors swirling that you would be willing to move your August 18th Showtime date to fight Paulie in Brooklyn in October. Is that accurate? Would you be willing to give up the date to fight Paulie in Brooklyn in October?

KC: If the situation is right to fight Paulie in Brooklyn, since he has a belt now, that's something we would seriously consider doing. A lot of people talk about us fighting at home. We would consider going to Brooklyn. Devon has no problem going to Brooklyn to fight. We just gotta see if things can get worked out. The article you wrote a couple weeks ago was perfect, Dave. Most fights, the promoters would have to do their job and build it up and make sure people are going to watch. This fight should be a promoter's dream. It's a fight that should happen. All the different aspects are already there. You've got a date, a fight, real bad blood. They both just came off good wins. Devon beat the toughest guy in the division in Maidana. Paulie just beat an okay fighter that nobody knew about, but it was for a belt. Hopefully the fans get what they want to see. Boxing fans want to see Paulie Malignaggi in the ring with Devon Alexander. Not with some soft-touch guy like Dmitry Salita. We're not in the soft touch business.

DK: Any final thoughts Kevin? Anything you want to say to the fans before we get off the phone?

KC: I just want to let Paulie's Twitter followers know the truth, you know. Paulie shouldn't be lying to the fans because people want you to keep it real with 'em and they want the truth. All those things Paulie is saying are stone cold lies. People want to know the truth and you should keep it real with the fans. Everybody that I know from Brooklyn backs up the shit they talk. Is Paulie really from Brooklyn?
