"I was just joking," stated Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach when asked to elaborate on his recent comments regarding Juan Manuel Marquez and the possible use of performance-enhancing drugs. Yesterday, in an interview with USA Today, Roach suggested that because Marquez had "gotten bigger and gained weight", it sends up a "red flag" that perhaps his physique transformation was not all natural. Although Roach appears to be singing a different tune today, he still questions exactly how Marquez was able to get so muscular.
"The thing is, he put on a lot of muscle and if you can do that by weightlifting, that's amazing. I workout every day and I don't get those kind of muscles," Roach commented during an interview conducted at today's open workout for Manny Pacquiao, still sounding skeptical, but backtracking somewhat from his original statements.
