"What's the sticking point? I don't know what he wants. I mean, he's getting more than me. What else does he want? Does he want me to fight for free? He might not want to fight, but I mean, who else is he going to fight," stated 3-division world champion and future Hall of Famer "Sugar" Shane Mosley, who was surprised to hear that WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi was reluctant to face him due to a disagreement in the financial terms for their April 27th showdown. According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, the proposed bout is in jeopardy because Malignaggi, not Mosley, has a problem with his financial guarantee.
"He might be a little afraid or intimidated, but, I mean, come on dog, you've been in with a lot of good guys to be intimidated by little ol' me," Mosley quipped, questioning if Malignaggi's hesitance has more to do with fear of stepping into the ring with the future Hall of Famer. "How can he be afraid of somebody that's 41 years old. If he's afraid of me, he shouldn't be a world champion. Give the belt to Thurman or somebody else, but don't perpetrate like you're a champion if you're afraid of me. If you're afraid of Sugar Shane, don't be perpetrating, so let's go ahead and get this over with."
Mosley continued. "I'm making 2 or 3 times more on my interest that I get from my money than I'm making on this fight. I'm really just fighting for the world title, you know what I'm saying. It's definitely not for the money," Mosley explained. "So Paulie, what do you want me to do? Do you want me to give you my whole fucking check? Get in the ring and fight. Just sign the contract, dog. Do you want the whole check? I'm not making no money anyway; I'm just fighting you for the belt."
