MARCOS MAIDANA AND JOSESITO LOPEZ WILL BATTLE TO RETAIN RELEVANCY

Over the weekend, Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions announced an excellent Light Welterweight scrap between Argentinian slugger Marcos Rene "El Chino" Maidana (33-3-0, 30 KO's) and battle-hardened contender Josesito Lopez (30-5-0, 18 KO's). Lopez scored a tremendous upset in June of last year against the tough former world champion Victor Ortiz prior to moving up to 154 pounds and getting beaten back down by Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in September.

The 29-year-old Maidana was outboxed by IBF beltholder Devon Alexander in February of last year, but rebounded to win a grueling war with Jesus Soto Karass and to shred journeyman Angel Martinez in a December Argentina homecoming. To retain relevancy for a desired world championship, he and Lopez both know they will need a victory on this so important night.

Maidana-Lopez will be the featured attraction of a to-be-announced Showtime televised Tripleheader taking place June 8th at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Observers are already presuming a potential Fight of the Year candidate.  These two warriors are known for their extreme tinacity and endurance, even when hopelessly outmatched. In other words...this won't end until one of them is out on the canvas.

Will it be the sheer brutality and lethal power of Maidana, or the strong heart and superb stamina of Lopez? Be sure to grab your tickets fast. More details to come soon.
