According to reports, welterweight contender Lee Purdy has agreed to face IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander on May 18 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Ranked #4 by the IBF, Purdy will replace the original mandatory challenger Kell Brook, who was forced to withdraw from the fight after suffering another injury.
Purdy's promoter, Eddie Hearn, who also promotes Kell Brook, made the following comments on his official Twitter page:
It's a funny old game how things play out.. @LeePurdy1 will challenge @DAlexandereal for the IBF World title on May 18th in Atlantic City
And @SpecialKBrook will remain No 1 mandatory challenger with the IBF.. Who fancies Purdy v Brook in September for the IBF strap!
Purdy is coming off of a 9th round TKO victory over Cosme Rivera last month.
