Moments ago, at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander dominated a tough, but outclassed Lee Purdy, whose corner asked the referee to stop the contest after watching their fighter take 7 rounds of punishment. Alexander stood right in front of Purdy from the onset. Landing a variety of combinations, he was able to quickly break down the guard of Purdy and land hard right hooks to the body and right uppercuts to the head.
By the 4th round, it was clear that Alexander was in full control as he smiled and traded words with Purdy while still blasting him with right hands. Although Purdy was tough and able to get in a few shots, he was simply outgunned by the champion, who continued to land at will despite injuring his left hand early in the fight. As the rounds continued, Alexander's landed punches increased until Purdy's corner finally decided that the accumulation of punishment was too much to continue.
