"Realistically, Floyd has no business fighting at 154 pounds, and still, with that being said, I think Floyd is going to outbox him anyway no matter what the weight is. The whole Mayweather thing, we believe in and rely on skills more than size because myself, Roger, and Big Floyd all beat guys way bigger than us," stated world-class trainer Jeff Mayweather, who shared his thoughts on the highly-anticipated September 14 mega-fight between his nephew, undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, and undefeated jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Jeff will no doubt be working closely with Roger and Big Floyd as the Mayweather brothers study footage of Alvarez to come up with the perfect game plan for Floyd. Check out some of Jeff's initial thoughts on Alvarez!
JEFF MAYWEATHER ON CANELO ALVAREZ:
At the end of the day, a guy with skills can actually move up to win multiple titles because of the skills he has, not because he's big enough or anything like that. It's because he's way smarter, and that's basically the situation with Floyd. Floyd is probably the smartest fighter on the planet right now. It doesn't take Floyd no more than 1 or 2 rounds to figure you out, and with that being said, fighting Canelo is going to be no different. He will make the necessary adjustments needed to pull off the win. I see Canelo as a guy that Floyd has to actually box. He is a kid with decent hand speed, good power, and he throws good combinations, so he is a guy who Floyd is going to have to outthink and outsmart, and Floyd is gonna have to go back to the old Floyd and that's boxing. Floyd can't fight Canelo like he fought Cotto. The one thing with Canelo is Canelo is flat-footed, so that makes it a lot easier for Floyd to get on his toes, dance around, and pot-shot him and do the things that he needs to do from the outside. And he is much faster than Canelo. Canelo has decent hand speed, but it's not comparable to Floyd's.
