It looks like former jr. welterweight champion Marcos Maidana could join fellow former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan as the latest fighter looking to add the services of Al Haymon. Sources close to the information have informed us that Maidana is on the verge of inking a deal with the influential adviser. Maidana and Khan would join former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz and heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder as the newest additions to Haymon's rapidly growing stable of fighters, which already includes Floyd Mayweather, Adrien Broner, Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse, Devon Alexander, Peter Quillin, Leo Santa Cruz, Gary Russell Jr., Austin Trout, Erislandy Lara, Andre Berto, Sakio Bika, Seth Mitchell, Chris Arreola, and Josesito Lopez, just to name a few.
The fact that Maidana looks poised to sign with Haymon could mean good news for a potential clash between the Argentinian and WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner. Though there's been no news on Broner's next opponent, the undefeated multi-division champion is expected to return to the ring in November and he recently expressed his interest in facing Maidana. On his official Twitter page, Broner made the following comments regarding Maidana:
A lot of people talking shit but what happen when I fuck this argentine mf up den what?.....
- Adrien Broner (@AdrienBroner) July 19, 2013
Mfs don't know shit bout boxing y'all praising these two argentines but they both been beat plenty of times!!!! Fuck out of here !!!!!
- Adrien Broner (@AdrienBroner) July 19, 2013
@DannySwift a bro fuck that dude up then I'm go handle the other argentine!!!
- Adrien Broner (@AdrienBroner) July 19, 2013
Whether or not that means both men will be facing each other in their next bout remains to be seen, however, given that Maidana is the mandatory to Broner's title and he's looking to join forces with Haymon, boxing fans can be optimistic that we'll be getting another excellent matchup on Showtime in the very near future.
