"I feel like Canelo is a strong kind. He obviously, in my opinion, struggles to make 154 pounds, and I think you can see that when you get on the other side of 6 rounds. You know, a guy can rehydrate, but the bottom line is, for that 2 months, 3 months, whatever your training camp was, you tore into muscle mass; you did things that you can't recover from in 24 hours, and when you do that, sometimes you see guys fade," stated undefeated super middleweight king Andre Ward, who shared his thoughts on the highly-anticipated September 14 showdown between fellow undefeated jr. middleweight champions Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. In Ward's opinion, Canelo already has a hard to making 154 pounds, let alone the 152-pound limit that this fight is being contested at, and the fact that he has yet to face anyone with Mayweather's skill level could mean a very, very rough night for the young 23-year-old champion.
"That's the advantage that Floyd has. Floyd pretty much fights at his walking around weight. It's a disadvantage because he's slightly smaller, but he can eat whatever he wants to eat and just train and not have to worry about weight," Ward explained during a recent appearance on FightHype Radio. "Canelo has a puncher's chance, but that's what all Floyd's opponents have and that's what any fighter has going into a fight is a puncher's chance if they can punch, but I don't think Canelo's skill level is anywhere near Floyd's and I feel like, um, man, if the Floyd that fought Guerrero shows up, which he'll probably be better because Floyd will rise to the occassion; I don't see Canelo being able to do anything with Floyd Mayweather."
