"There's a lot of options out there. Martinez, Gennady...the only option you won't see is Pacquiao because him and Pacquiao are friends now," stated world-class trainer Freddie Roach, who made it crystal clear that as long as he's still working with both fighters, we won't be seeing a rematch between Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao any time soon. Of course, the news should come as no surprise considering that Roach took a similar stance when he was training Amir Khan alongside Pacquiao.
"I won't let them fight. They're on the same team. So everyone else is open game. His management will get the best guy for the best money," Roach explained to FightHype's own Fernando Pimentel shortly after Cotto's media workout yesterday. As far as training camp is concerned, Roach is pleased with the progress they have made thus far, praising Cotto's work ethic and drawing comparisons to Manny Pacquiao as preparations continue for the October 5 showdown with Delvin Rodriguez. "His work ethic is as good as maybe Pacquiao's," Roach added. "He's one of the hardest workers I've ever met in my life."
