"Being where I'm from, it's big on football and basketball; mainly football. Crimson Tide, Alabama, right there in Tuscaloosa...I grew love for football and basketball. I liked boxing. I liked Mike Tyson and all those guys, you know, and as I grew older, I learned about Muahammad Ali because he was way before my time. When I started boxing, I only knew about Muhammad Ali and his Olympics career and stuff like that. I really didn't really too hard follow nobody...my mind was so focused on football and basketball until I actually got into it, so I really didn't know nothing about no amateur; I didn't no nothing, completely, totally nothing about amateur boxing until 2007...when I was 21, 22, something like that...growing up, that was my passion, football and basketball. You could not separate the two from me, but now...I'm so focused on boxing. My love for it, it's crazy," stated undefeated heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder, who explained how his passion for football and basketball was replaced with his love for boxing at the age of 21.
