PETER QUILLIN RETAINS TITLE AGAINST GABRIEL ROSADO AFTER CUT FORCES STOPPAGE IN 10TH

Moments ago in Atlantic City, New Jersey, undefeated WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin successfully retained his title after challenger Gabriel Rosado suffered a cut over his eye from a punch. Quillin took an early lead on the scorecards after scoring a flash knockdown in the 2nd round. As the fight progressed, however, it was clear that Rosado was starting to take over control as he turned up the pressure. The fight appeared to be up for grabs coming down the stretch, as Rosado coming on strong while Quillin was preserving his energy by going to the ropes looking to counter. As the 9th round came to a close, a stiff jab from Quillin opened up a cut over the left eye of Rosado. The bout was allowed to continue, but after Quillin landed another shot in the 10th, the referee quickly called a halt to the action to allow the doctor to take another look at the cut. Despite pleas from Rosado to let the fight continue, the doctor ruled that he could no longer continue, giving Quillin the TKO victory just 40 seconds into the round.
