"Fireworks. I expect a good fight. I never thought that we would cross paths so early in our careers, which I mean, that's what we gotta do. We gotta make it happen and it's going down January 30th, man. That's all I can say. I will be more than ready to get that victory and move on with my career...like I said man, January 30th, expect fireworks, it's going down," stated undefeated Eddie Gomez, who talked about his upcoming January 30 clash with fellow undefeated Daquan Arnett. Check out what else he had to say!
PC: Someone's 0 must go on January 30th. You will be fighting Daquan Arnett. How do you feel?
EG: I feel great. It's going to be the second show for Golden Boy next year. I'm excited to be back in New York again, Barclays Center, in front of a lot of family, a lot of friends, and a lot of people that support me.
PC: Two young and undefeated fighters with high skill levels. What are you expecting when you and Arnett come together?
EG: Fireworks. I expect a good fight. I never thought that we would cross paths so early in our careers, which I mean, that's what we gotta do. We gotta make it happen and it's going down January 30th, man. That's all I can say. I will be more than ready to get that victory and move on with my career.
PC: You guys came up in the same ranks as amateurs and I'm sure you've watched him fight as a pro. What do you think of him as an opponent?
EG: He a good fighter also. We also have the same, well, similar style. He's quick and a good boxer. That's all I can basically say about him, but we gonna be on our P's and Q's and we gonna do whatever it takes to get that victory.
PC: The exposure that Golden Boy is giving their young fighters is amazing. How does it feel to be able to have these big networks and big audiences to see you so early in your career?
EG: Right now, Golden Boy alone giving us the opportunity to showcase our talents; us being so young and just getting into the game. Somebody's 0 must go; I know it ain't gonna be mine. I'm just excited for the fight, that's all I can really say about that.
PC: Daquan put something on Twitter before it was announced that it was you as the opponent, saying, "I'm gonna whoop this boy ass!" Do you think it's gonna be a lot of jabs thrown between you guys before the fight starts or are you gonna let your fists do the talking?
EG: I'm saying every now and then, why not? If I see a little sub or something thrown out there that's not true, I'ma throw something in there also.
PC: You showed off a lot of things against Upsher in your last fight. What can people expect from "EBoy" in this fight?
EG: We gonna be sharp all around, that's all I can really say. I don't wanna give up too much information, but we gonna be sharp, we gonna go in that ring, and like I said, we getting that victory. Whatever it takes and whatever it is I gotta do in there to get the victory, it's gonna be done.
PC: It's gotta be a great feeling to have the Barclays Center for all of you New York guys; that way you don't always feel like you are on the road.
EG: It's a nice place, a nice venue, and a lot of people come out and support, so that's always a good thing. Being from New York, Madison Square Garden was the place where people could always go and see the good fights, but that was more like back then. Now, it's a new generation and we have a new venue and it's better for us to motivate us and to get our people over there.
PC: Has it been difficult to train through the holidays?
EG: Nah, it don't really bother me because either way, these are the little steps and the little sacrifices that I gotta make now so that I can live good in the future.
PC: What does it say about Golden Boy and them being willing to match their two young undefeated fighters in an era where things like this don't happen often?
EG: They just promoting and doing what they doing and giving the fans the best fights out there. They don't want to make it boring to where you already know who gonna win. They wanna make it an even fight to where you don't know what side to pick. They are doing their job and we gotta do out job, which is to go in there and give the fans what they want to see, a good fight.
PC: How do you rate your 2013?
EG: I say on a scale of 1-10, probably a 7. There were a lot more things I could have did in there during my fights throughout the year. I'm looking to step it up next year and be a complete fighter.
PC: I can't let you go without getting your thoughts on Adrien Broner's loss to Marcos Maidana. Can Adrien bounce back from this or do you believe, like many, that he's gonna have to make some lifestyle changes?
EG: It all depends on him and whether he is mentally strong to be able to get past what happened and come back stronger and go in there and do what he has to do. But at the end of the day, he gotta remember what got him to where he's at and that's boxing. He gotta stick to what he gotta do and box and work hard and he will probably be able to bounce back at his right weight class, and that's 140 I think.
PC: Looking at your division, 147, when you look around, what do you see because most observers feel it's the best division in boxing?
EG: I see a lot of talent at 147, from young fighters to the veterans that's been around for awhile. The division is stacked and packed and it's just a matter of time before somebody comes along and takes over.
PC: When we spoke in Vegas, you told me that you felt you could be one of those fighters who could have success in multiple divisions. Do you still feel that way?
EG: I don't see why not because it's open for the taking; whoever is hungrier will get that spot. They'll get that number one spot and they'll hold it down.
PC: They got a long time between now and your fight, so we gotta get camp updates, more interviews, etcetera. Good luck on camp. Is there anything you want to add?
EG: I just want to say shoutout to Percy and FightHype. Everybody can follow me on Instagram at King_eg, on Twitter @EddieGomez718, and on Facebook at Eddie Gomez and you can stay up to date on training and everything. And like I said man, January 30th, expect fireworks, it's going down.
