IBF jr. welterweight champion Lamont Peterson proved that his knockout loss to the hard-hitting Lucas Matthysse is behind him, scoring an impressive unanimous decision victory over the previously undefeated Dierry Jean at the D.C. Armory in Washington, D.C. Jean was game as he took the fight to the champion early, countering over Peterson's jab to land some nice right hands. Peterson, however, turned up the heat by the middle rounds, breaking Jean down with some good body work.
Jean continued to battle back, but it was clear that Peterson was in total control as he continued to walk down the challenger for the remainder of the fight. In the end, the judges scored the bout 115-113, 116-112, and 118-111 all in favor of Peterson. During the post-fight interview, Peterson said he would not shy away from a potential unification bout with undefeated jr. welterweight king Danny Garcia.
