"My next opponent will be announced very soon, he won't be ranked low as 33," wrote former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan, who recently revealed to his followers on Twitter that he'll soon be announcing his next opponent. Sources close to the information have informed us that when Khan does make that announcement, there's a very strong chance that the name he reveals will be multi-division world champion Robert Guerrero. In fact, FightHype can confirm that Robert Guerrero was definitely one of the names given to Amir Khan as a Plan B option following the announcement of Mayweather vs. Maidana.
"Both sides like the fight because they're both coming off long layoffs," one source recently commented. Indeed, the last time both fighters stepped into the ring was nearly one year ago. Khan is coming off of a winning, albeit a lackluster performance against former lightweight champion Julio Diaz, who dropped him in the fourth round of the fight, while Guerrero is looking to rebound after a losing effort against undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather.
Furthermore, another source informs us that there's also a possibility that the potential Khan vs. Guerrero clash could end up being the co-main event to the May 3 title unification between WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather and WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana. We're told that if it does end up on the May 3 card, former welterweight champion Adrien Broner could be bumped down to the third slot of the televised pay-per-view, and if that's the case, he could be facing an opponent along the lines of Humberto Soto as opposed to the hard-hitting John Molina.
Note that none of these potential bouts have yet to be finalized, however, be sure to check back soon as this story continues to develop.
