ROBERT GARCIA SURPRISED BY ARUM'S RANT ON MAYWEATHER VS. MAIDANA:

"I've been in this before where we are the underdogs. It surprsed me for Bob Arum to say that because he knows I've trained a lot of fighters under his banner and a lot of times I've been the underdog on those fights. From Steven Luevano to Brian Viloria, when he beat Archie Solis," stated world-class trainer Robert Garcia, who made it a point to address recent comments that promoter Bob Arum made over the weekend regarding the May 3 clash between WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana and undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather. According to Arum, fans should forego buying the pay-per-view card because it's full of mismatches, nameley the main event featuring Garcia's fighter Maidana, who is said to be a 15-to-1 underdog to Mayweather. As far as Garcia is concerned, however, Arum knows all too well the success he's had with underdogs pulling off the upset in entertaining fights.

"Brandon Rios himself, Bob Arum thought Peterson was going to dominate Brandon pretty easily and we upsetted the whole HBO and the whole people thinking that Peterson was their next star. So, you know, we've been in there before. I think Bob should know better than that. He knows that I'm training Chino Maidana and he knows what I can do with Chino," Garcia explained during a recent conference call to promote the fight. "So, you know, I think it's probably just part of the way he reacts, the way he wants to react. Of course, the companies don't work together, so it's something that he's going to try to do to prevent us from having a great night and having a great fight and of course Showtime Pay-Per-View doing good on buys. That's all he's trying to do."
