"Like Mayweather has said, all the fighters have tried and all of them have failed, but in every challenge, in every fight, it's always a new opponent. It's always something different that every fighter brings to the table," stated Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, who shared his thoughts on the upcoming May 3 clash between undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather and WBA weltereweight champion Marcos Maidana. Although he's not sure of the game plan that Maidana's trainer, Robert Garcia, has in store, De La Hoya insists that Mayweather is beatable and believes that he could've been the first to do it if their fight had taken place when he was younger.
"I'm not sure what they're thinking, but I'm positive they have a game plan and they have to execute that game plan. I mean, there's different reasons why everybody lost to Mayweather, you know, and obviously because he's the best," De La Hoya explained when asked during a recent conference call why Mayweather is so difficult to beat. "He's slippery. He's just slippery; slippery to hit. You know, and this is my experience; I'm just talking for myself. This is my experience, you know. Obviously, me as a competitor and to have a fighting spirit, you know, obviously if I was younger, I would've beat him. That's just the way I feel. Nobody has beat him before and that's reality. He's undefeated."
