"There have been no talks about the Mayweather rematch so far. We'll talk with Al Haymon in the next few weeks and we'll see what happens," stated Sebastian Contursi, manager of former welterweight champion Marcos Maidana, who informed us that he has yet to have any conversations about a potential September rematch with undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather. According to Contursi, the talk of Maidana retiring if he doesn't get the rematch was misinterpreted, however, the hard-hitting Argentinian does want the fight badly, and if he doesn't get it, or at least another big, high-profile fight, then Maidana may end up taking a long break to enjoy some rest and relaxation.
"Marcos badly wants the rematch with Mayweather as he thinks he highly deserves it, as most people in the boxing would agree with him. Don't know where the retirement idea comes from, probably a misinterpretation of Marcos' words by the Argentinean press," Contursi explained. "Marcos said he wants Mayweather or a big fight next, or he might have a rest as he has been fighting at the highest level in the last four or five years without a rest."
