"It took us by surprise, but I don't think it will affect Marcos in any way," stated Sebastian Contursi, manager of former welterweight champion Marcos Maidana, who shared his thoughts on the shakeup within Golden Boy Promotions. With the recent departures of former CEO Richard Schaefer and former COO Bruce Binkow, it's unclear as to who exactly will be running the day-to-day operations of the company. Regardless, it's an issue that Contursi seems unconcerned about.
Of course, considering that Maidana is adivsed by Al Haymon, it's no wonder that his team is confident that it'll be business as usual despite the changes taking place at the promotional company. In fact, at this point, it's unclear if Maidana is even one of Golden Boy's fighters. When asked if Maidana was a free agent, Contursi replied, "Our lawyers are revising Marcos' contractual situation so we'll have to wait a bit until they clarify it for us."
