"I haven't talked to him recently. And you know what? Things are going great at Golden Boy Promotions. We're moving forward. Golden Boy Promotions is a well oiled machine. I mean, we have a great partnership with Fox. We're doing great fights. I am so, so excited about the future of boxing, of Golden Boy Promotions, especially for the fans. Now we can make the fights that the fans deserve," stated Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, who spoke more about the recent resignation of long-time Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer during a recent appearance on Fox Sports Live.
For months, there were constant rumors of internal strife between the former friends until finally, on June 2, Schaefer officially announced his departure from the company. Nevertheless, De La Hoya maintains that he was in the dark when the news revealed. "Look, I mean, obviously I didn't see this coming. It took me by surprise. I was for weeks telling the media, 'Look, I want Richard there. You know, we built a business together and let's move forward.' But this resignation obviously took me by surprirse," De La Hoya explained. "But look, it happens in every business. Executives come and go. I had no idea, but it's okay because the show must go on and let's make fights."
