Moments ago at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, former welterweight champion Devon Alexander returned to his winning ways, scoring a unanimous decision against hard-hitting contender Jesus Soto Karass. It was an entertaining matchup as Alexander mixed it up against the persistent pressure of Soto Karass, boxing behind quick combinations while still being willing to trade on the inside. In the end, the judges scored the bout 97-93, 99-91, and 99-91, all in favor of Devon Alexander.
Alexander got off to a fast start, finding it easy to land quick combinations to the body and head. The difference in hand speed was clear from the start. By the fourth round, Alexander began landing at will, finding a home for his straight left and right hook. Though Alexander was easily boxing circles around Soto Karass, he was also willing to stand his ground and trade when necessary. Undeterred, Soto Karass pressed forward trying to chop down the body of Alexander. In the 10th and final round, both fighters came out swinging. Soto Karass was looking to score the knockout and Alexander was more than willing to trade punches toe to toe. Unfortunately for Soto Karass, it was a case of too little, too late as Alexander had already put enough rounds in the bank to earn the decision.
