According to a recent statement from promoter Eddie Hearn, random drug testing is one of the terms that's been requested for the proposed IBF welterweight title clash between champion Shawn Porter and mandatory challenger Kell Brook. "We are more than happy with the terms, which include random drug testing, which I feel is very important in the sport today," Hearn recently told Shaun Brown of BoxingScene.com. Sources tell us that it was Brook, not Porter, who made the request.
When Kenny Porter, father and trainer of Shawn, recently suggested that Brook was stalling because they had yet to receive a signed contract from him, Hearn quickly shot down that notion, telling Brown, "I was shocked to hear Porter's comments and as such immediately called Arnold Joseph, Golden Boy's lawyer, who confirmed to me that all contract and agreements were fully executed and forwarded to the IBF." He added, "The original date of August 9 appears to have fallen through so we are awaiting now the final confirmation of the fight date which must happen prior to Sep 10 within the agreement."
Though an official date has yet to be determined, we're told that the fight could be targeted for September 6, one week before Floyd Mayweather is supposed to make his return to the ring.
