According to multiple reports, IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez has signed with influential adviser Al Haymon. Carl Moretti, Vice President of Boxing Operations for Top Rank, was the first to reveal Haymon's interest in the rangy, technical fighter when he hinted in a Twitter post over two weeks ago that Vazquez was "the latest" to be approached by "Haymon associates".
Vazquez's last bout, a unanimous decision victory over the previously undefeated Denis Shafikov, was promoted by Top Rank, though the lightweight champion was officially under contract with Zanfer Promotions, who has a history of doing business with Top Rank. It's unclear at this point if Vazquez is a free agent, however, to our understanding, the 3-year contract extension that he signed with Zanfer back in May of 2011 should be up.
Vazquez joins a rapidly growing stable of Haymon fighters, which already includes Floyd Mayweather, Adonis Stevenson, Danny Garcia, Adrien Broner, Marcos Maidana, Lucas Matthysse, Chad Dawson, Devon Alexander, Peter Quillin, Leo Santa Cruz, Gary Russell Jr., Austin Trout, Erislandy Lara, Andre Berto, Sakio Bika, Chris Arreola, Deontay Wilder, and Edwin Rodriguez, just to name a few.
