Sources close to the situation have informed us that former welterweight champion Andre Berto will make his long-awaited return to the ring on a fight card currently being targeted for September. Though no details have been released about a potential opponent, we're told that Berto will be just one of several familiar names that will be featured on a card likely to take place on September 6, just one week prior to Floyd Mayweather's anticipated September 13 rematch with Marcos Maidana (assuming, of course, that the fight is indeed finalized). Furthermore, we're also told that the card could end up at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
After losing to Jesus Soto Karass via 12th round TKO back on July 27, 2013, it's been nearly a year since Berto last fought. He suffered a shoulder injury early in that fight that later required surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff. Following successful surgery in August, Berto was finally cleared to begin light sparring back in March after months of rehabilitation. Currently, Berto continues to train with Virgil Hunter as he waits for details of his ring return to be finalized.
