"The only one question everybody's asking, and I still don't know the answer, everybody's asking us about the glove situation, and we can't answer that question. Maidana cannot answer the question; I cannot answer it either. I think that question you guys have to ask Mayweather himself," stated world-class trainer Robert Garcia, who made it a point to bring up the topic of Marcos Maidana's gloves during the first stop of the multi-city press tour to promote the anticipated rematch with Floyd Mayweather. Though Garcia did not shed any light on the subject, his non-answer suggests that Maidana may have signed a contract which prohibits him from wearing his preferred choice of Everlast MX gloves when he steps into the ring on September 13.
The gloves were at the center of controversy in their first fight when Team Mayweather objected to the use of a pair of customized Everlast MX gloves, which they claimed offered very little padding in the knuckle area due to the use of horse hair as padding. After hours of back and forth negotiations on the eve of the fight, much to the dismay of Garcia, Maidana finally agreed to use Everlast Powerlock gloves, which uses all foam padding, instead.
