"I'm not going to change my style. I thought the first time I felt confident. Robert's coming up with a strategy and we'll go from there...I just have to get my punches off a bit better and that's what I think will help me be better this fight...I feel that he will still run away. If he's stands and fights, I'll beat him and if he runs, I'll chase him down and beat him," stated former welterweight champion Marcos Maidana, who answered questions from members of the media about his upcoming September 13 rematch with undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather. Both Maidana and Mayweather were scheduled to arrive in Washington DC for the second stop of their multi-city press tour to promote the bout, but bad weather forced their flights to be delayed, which prompted the spur of the moment conference call. Check out what else he had to say to some of the questions asked of him!
Q: Does your strategy change?
MM: No, I'm not going to change my style. I thought the first time I felt confident. Robert's coming up with a strategy and we'll go from there.
Q: Are you taking up Floyd's bet, and do you think he's afraid?
MM: I don't think he's afraid, but it doesn't matter. I'm willing to take the bet no problem.
Q: Do you feel from the first experience that it will help you?
MM: I do think It will help me. I'm not changing my style. I just have to get my punches off a bit better and that's what I think will help me be better this fight.
Q: Do you think being lighter on your feet will help you perform better this time?
MM: Look, the weight wasn't a factor. I will make adjustments; Robert will make adjustments.
Q: Can you address the fact that you were paid extra money not to use the gloves you wanted?
MM: No, I didn't get paid extra; not at all. It's just a rumor.
Q: How long have you been in training camp?
MM: I haven't' done too much. I've done some sparring at home. I still feel good, but I haven't done real training yet.
Q: In the first fight, nobody gave you a chance. How has your life changed?
MM: I'm used to the underdog role. I feel that this is my time now and I will win the rematch.
Q: How hard did you take Argentina's World Cup loss?
MM: I followed it and it was painful. I was happy for them and they put on a great effort for the country.
Q: What kind of adjustments do you think Floyd will make in the rematch?
MM: I feel that he will still run away. If he's stands and fights, I'll beat him and if he runs, I'll chase him down and beat him.
Q: What did you score the fight after you first watched the fight?
MM: I haven't watched the whole fight yet, to be honest. I've only watched parts of it and I've been busy with the baby. With training camp coming, I'll sit down and watch it then.
Q: Some made a deal about the officiating and the referee. Do you have a concern here?
MM: I think Floyd is always coming up with excuses and uses his elbows a lot. I think he will call the shots. We respect the officiating.
Q: Do you feel pressure to validate Argentina with Martinez and Argentina losing in the World Cup?
MM: Yes, I'm hard on myself. I really want to win and I'll do whatever it takes to win this fight.
