At the 22nd annual ESPY Awards, undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather once again took home the Best Fighter award, beating out fellow undefeated champion Andre Ward, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, as well as UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. This is the sixth time that Mayweather has won the award, also taking home the honors in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2013.
"Thank you so much to ESPN and everyone, every fan that voted. Without you guys, like I said before, I wouldn't be where I'm at," Mayweather commented after receiving the award. The ESPY Awards is an annual ceremony that celebrates athletic performances throughout the year. Nominees for each category are voted on and chosen by fans, sportswriters, broadcasters, sports executives, and sports personalities. The winners are then selected exclusively via online fan balloting. ESPN listed the following achievement as the reason for Mayweather's nomination:
Mayweather cruised to a majority decision over Saul Alvarez to unify the light middleweight titles. He improved to a record of 46-0 with a decisive win over Marcos Maidana.
