DEMETRIUS ANDRADE EAGER TO FACE CANELO OR LARA: "I'M WILLING TO GET IN THE RING WITH BOTH"

By Percy Crawford | July 21, 2014
DEMETRIUS ANDRADE EAGER TO FACE CANELO OR LARA:

" I honestly don't care who won or what the outcome was gonna be because I'm willing to get in the ring with both of them at any time. If Lara wants to do it if I can't get Canelo, then I'll take Lara. Canelo is the one I want officially. I don't know if they stole it from Lara or not, but at the end of the day, I'm willing to get in there with both of them," stated WBO jr. middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade, who talked about his recent win, his future plans, and more. Check it out!

PC: Congratulations on the win over Rose. How do you feel about that performance?

DA: In the Rose fight, I thought I did everything I needed to do. I train extremely hard for all of my fights and the more I get into the ring at the professional level, I'm learning, I'm growing and understanding and seeing where I can capitalize and throw harder and quicker punches. I seen everything that I needed to do and I did everything that I wanted to do. I gained a lot of fans from that performance, even though I have been in there with a lot of good fighters and I made it look like that every time I step into the ring.

PC: You were almost in a squatting position sitting down on your punches in that fight. It appeared you really wanted to make a statement in that fight.

DA: I wanna do that in all my fights. You just can't knock out everybody in the world. Some people can take your power and if you can't get them out to the body, somebody in their corner or a family member gonna have to throw in the towel; mom's jumping up by the ring, "That's my baby. Stop the fight," (laughing), so we just doing everything to be great.

PC: Do you feel like that was your most complete performance?

DA: Like I said, I'm learning every time I step in the ring and in this fight, I'm seeing things and sharpening up and executed a little better. But yeah, people seeing what Demetrius Andrade can do against anybody put in front of me. I just been doing it for a long time. When I fought Vanes, I beat him with my jab. I single-handedly beat that man with my jab because he was running the whole night and my key shot was the jab. People didn't see the beauty in that and I don't understand why not. But at the end of the day, people will always come over to the boxing aspect of the game before they go with the banger. Of course they wanna see a banger bang out, but that leads to a short career and eventually they'll come over like they did with Mayweather and Andre Ward, and now it's Demetrius Andrade.

PC: Was there anything Rose brought to the table that you weren't expecting?

DA: He was 25-1 and like I told them before the fight, when you are 25-1, you must be a tough guy. To have that record in professional boxing is impressive because this is not an easy sport. You don't tag somebody in; there are no timeouts or 2-minute warnings. You get 1 minute between every round. He came to win, that's what I expected him to do, and there was no surprises because I was prepared for whatever he brought to the table.

PC: Now that you have your pops back in your corner after going a few fights without him, what is that like?

DA: It's beauty. We had our little ups and downs and I went on my course and learned and grew and I realized that ain't nobody better for me as far as getting me mentally and physically in shape. I know no matter what happens, he is in there fighting with me even though he's not in there. I know he's gonna be there to protect me. I can look over in my corner and see that my dad gave me the right instructions as opposed to somebody I don't know giving me some bullshit instructions. Nobody knows me better than my dad. He is the greatest trainer and he will be the greatest trainer sooner or later and everybody is going to realize that.

PC: Do you go back and view your fights afterward?

DA: I watch my fights a few times. I just like to tune in and see what I need to do. I take my time when I watch my fights. I don't want to just go ahead and watch it. I wait a few weeks later and then I go to the gym and work on stuff after about a week off from my last fight. But I go in there and look at my fight and see where I can grow, and see, okay, maybe I should have put more pressure there or took my time there and next time I know not to do that, I'ma do this. Just living and learning and progressing and you will see greatness come out.

PC: Did you watch the fight between Erislandy Lara and Canelo Alvarez, and if so, what was your take?

DA: I didn't get to see the fight. I was in the UK supporting one of my stablemates that my dad trains. I was there showing my support. He did a great job. About the Lara/Canelo fight, I honestly don't care who won or what the outcome was gonna be because I'm willing to get in the ring with both of them at any time. If Lara wants to do it if I can't get Canelo, then I'll take Lara. Canelo is the one I want officially. I don't know if they stole it from Lara or not, but at the end of the day, I'm willing to get in there with both of them. If Canelo wants to get back in the ring in November, I was thinking October or November for myself; we can definitely get it on. I got the WBO; he has nothing, but he is the household name and my name is coming around the corner. Lara is a great fighter and Canelo is a great fighter and we can definitely have the fireworks going and we can all get down because the people want to see it.

PC: Is the goal to become more active whether you can get these big name guys in the ring or not?

DA: The thing about me, man, I done had 6 to 8 months off and for someone who has been doing this since I was 6 years old, the time off ain't gonna stop me. I'm just gonna get good work and make sure I'm staying active as far as sparring with top guys like Shawn Porter. I'm just staying sharp and doing what I've been doing since I was 6 years old and mastering my craft. But if I can get in there, it would be as soon as possible because the iron is hot and you gotta strike while the iron is hot. Canelo just came off of a victory and he's talking about November. Hopefully we can do it before Thanksgiving; if not, Thanksgiving is over for me because I would have to diet and make weight and be on point. I would definitely be ready to beat him out come November.

PC: I hope we can see you in these fights you are looking to make happen. Thanks again for your time. Is there anything else you want to add?

DA: Yeah man, A Team Boxing, Facebook Demetrius Andrade, Instagram boobooateam and on Twitter @boobooboxing. If you want to see greatness and follow greatness, that's me, the best at 154 pounds. I told them when I was 8 years old that I was gonna make it to the Olympics and my time was 2008 and I did that. I told them I was gonna be world champion after that and I did that and now I'm looking to be the greatest ever and to unify the division and retire undefeated. Hopefully I could give Mayweather his first L before he retires, and if not, I will be the next cash cow!
