Earlier this month, after submitting an application to the New York State Athletic Commission, Mayweather Promotions received their promoter's license in the state of New York. According to Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe, it was just the first of many more to come as he revealed that he had also filed a application for a promoter's license in the state of Nevada. "We're looking to do a number of different things in a number of different states and not one particular state in general. We've already applied for a Nevada license," Ellerbe explained during a stop in Chicago while promoting Floyd Mayweather's upcoming rematch with Marcos Maidana. In less than 24 hours, Ellerbe will soon find out if his second application for a promoter's license was approved.
This Wednesday, at 10AM PT, the Nevada State Athletic Commission is holding a meeting where they will address a number of topics. Of the 35 items listed on the agenda, the most interesting might be #32: Discussion and possible action regarding the application of Mayweather Promotions, LLC for a promoter's license, for possible action. Tomorrow's decision by the Nevada State Athletic Commission will no doubt impact the future of the working relationship between Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions, who are currently co-promoting Mayweather vs. Maidana 2. If Mayweather Promotions is indeed approved for a Nevada license, the September 13 rematch could very well be the last time that Golden Boy Promotions is involved in a Mayweather fight.
