Moments ago at Revel Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey, WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev made easy work of challenger Blake Caparello, stopping the previously undefeated fighter in the 2nd round of a scheduled 12-round showdown.
Although Caparello found success early, scoring a knockdown in the first round thanks to a stepped on foot, it didn't take long for Kovalev to begin his assault. A right hand to the body sent Caparello to the canvas for the first time early in the second round. After that, Kovalev quickly backed him up to a corner where he let his hands go, dropping Caparrelo two more times before the referee called a halt to onslaught at 1:47 of the round.
"Just box him, and that's it...Max, you know, I'm not going to knock him out. I go to the ring for boxing. If it happens, I knock him out, good, but that's not my goal...if I knock him out, I'm going to be a new Alien," Kovalev commented, as he now sets his sights on a November 8 light heavyweight unification showdown with WBA & IBF champion Bernard Hopkins.
