According to multiple eyewitnesses, world-class Strength & Conditioning Coach Alex Ariza was spotted at the Mayweather Boxing Club yesterday while undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather held a training session ahead of his upcoming September 13 rematch with former welterweight champion Marcos Maidana. Though it is not uncommon for other fighters, trainers, athletes, and celebrities to visit the gym in hopes of seeing firsthand the hard work and dedication that Mayweather displays in camp, it is somewhat interesting to hear that Ariza was in attendance, especially considering that he was instrumental in the success that Maidana had in his first encounter with Mayweather back in May.
Not long after it was revealed that Maidana would get the rematch that he desired, his trainer, Robert Garcia, surprised everyone with his announcement that Ariza would no longer be working with Maidana, or any of his other fighters for that matter. The news seemed to come out of left field considering that the team of Garcia and Ariza brought out a performance in Maidana that some believe was Mayweather's toughest challenge to date.
During the multi-city press tour to promote the rematch, when asked what he thought about Ariza's departure from Team Maidana, Mayweather quickly jumped at the opportunity to extend an open invitation to Ariza to "come out to my training camp." Until today, it was unknown if Ariza ever took Mayweather up on that offer. Now, it's clear that he has. The question is, did Ariza merely show up at the gym as a spectator, or is he there for some other purpose? Later that evening, or should we say morning, Mayweather posted a picture, along with a video, of Ariza stretching him before he embarked on a 3 AM run. Ariza's appearance with Mayweather is sure to raise some eyebrows.
