"This guy still looks like a monster, a killing machine, a young middleweight model of Mike Tyson. I mean, he's a guy that just destroys everybody they put in front of him, so these guys are not going to be scratching or knocking the door down to get in the ring in front of Gennady Golovkin. Believe me," stated future Hall of Famer and HBO commentator Roy Jones Jr., who shared his thoughts on the recent performance of undefeated WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, who knocked out challenger Marco Antonio Rubio in the second round at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. According to Jones Jr., because none of the top middleweights, such as WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, are going to be too eager to step into the ring with the hard-hitting puncher from Kazakhstan, perhaps it might be time for him to set his sights on the super middleweight king, Andre Ward, who many consider to be the second best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
"That would be a wonderful fight. If I were promoting him, that's exactly what I would do if I was Andre because Andre needs opponents that can stand in front of him and make it a chess fight. This is the perfect guy for Andre Ward to fight. I would love to see that fight. It would be a great fight for the network and for the fans," Jones explained. Fellow HBO commentator Jim Lampley confirmed that it's a fight that Ward is more than willing to accept. "Ward's lawyer sent me an email today saying he'll fight him; he'll fight him whenever," Lampley added.
