KHAN VS. ALEXANDER, ANDRADE VS. CHARLO, AND THURMAN VS. BUNDU TRIPLEHEADER EYED FOR DECEMBER 13

According to multiple sources, a welterweight showdown between former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan and former welterweight champion Devon Alexander is in the works for December 13 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. We're also told that the event will be a tripleheader, featuring WBO jr. middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade defending his title against undefeated challenger Jermell Charlo and interim WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman taking on the undefeated Leonard Bundu.

Khan and Alexander were originally set to face each other last December, but Khan pulled out of the bout when he assumed that he would be next in line to face undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather. That decision, however, was made prior to Marcos Maidana upsetting previously undefeated former welterweight champion Adrien Broner, which earned him the assignment to face Mayweather instead of Khan. At the time, Khan regretted his decision to pull out of the fight, telling Sky Sports, "I do regret it a little bit now. That would've probably put me in a better position because I would have been a world champion and on top of that I would have had a good win, rather than being out of the game for such a long time."

Khan would later go on to face former welterweight champion Luis Collazo, winning a dominant unanimous decision on the Mayweather vs. Maidana undercard back in May. He has yet to fight since then, but with a Mayweather showdown still in his sights, it appears Khan is hoping to prove his case for the fight with an impressive performacne against Alexander, who is a very skilled and dangerous challenge for anyone in the welterweight division. Although the Khan vs. Alexander clash has yet to be finalized, both sides are on the verge of signing.

It should be noted that Top Rank is also staging an event on the same day and in the same city, as former welterweight champion Timothy Bradley takes on welterweight contender Diego Chaves at The Cosmopolitan.
