Patience is running thin for Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar De La Hoya, who is eager to finalize a deal that will match his fighter, former jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, against WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Moments ago, De La Hoya took to social media to reveal that Canelo has agreed to all terms, including a smaller percentage of the total purse, and that the ball has been in Cotto's court for the past 6 weeks.
"@caneloOficial has conceded on all demands including moving from 50/50. the ball has been in @RealMiguelCotto court for more than 6 weeks," De La Hoya wrote on his official Twitter page. It's unclear as to why Cotto has yet to agree to a showdown with Canelo, which De La Hoya hopes to stage on May 2, 2015, however Cotto's advisor, Gaby Penagaricano, recently hinted that a rematch with undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather is still a possibility.
"The reality is that there is no agreement yet, none, for any fight. We are in talks, but to say that an agreement has been made is not true," Penagaricano explained to Rey Colon of thesportpress.com. "A fight with Mayweather has not been totally ruled out. We must see first what will happen with this fight [Mayweather vs. Pacquiao], but it [rematch with Mayweather] could be a possibility. It's an interesting fight."
