Sources close to the information have informed us that Golden Boy Promotions is in the process of working on a deal for a showdown between former jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and jr. middleweight contender James Kirkland. According to one source, the bout will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Furthermore, we're told that they intend to stage the bout on May 2.
We assume the bout will be televised by HBO. If Golden Boy Promotions is indeed planning to stage the bout on May 2, one has to wonder if HBO is still having discussions with Showtime to work out details of a potential mega-fight between undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather and 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao. It's been reported by other media outlets that the two networks are still having discussions, but with this latest development, one has to wonder if that information is still factual.
