Former International Boxing Federation Jr. Middleweight Champion, Ishe Smith, will celebrate "Ishe Smith Day" with residents and guests at The Salvation Army, 35 W. Owens in North Las Vegas. Mr. Smith has partnered with Baby Stacks Café to bring brunch to serve the 300 or so who will come to the non-profit's Dining Hall for the daily Community Meal at 1:30 PM.
A Las Vegas native and graduate of Durango High School, Ishe Smith began boxing at the age of 8, competing in amateur bouts by 10 and earning a Bronze medal at the 1994 Junior Olympics. Ten-time Nevada State boxing champ as a junior, Ishe had over 100 amateur fights and won many titles before turning professional in 2010. He also was featured on the reality television show, "The Contender" and became Las Vegas' first native to become IBF Champion in 2013.
"I try to do as much as I can throughout our community because this city means so much to me," say Smith. To show his support for those less fortunate than he has been, he gives back whenever possible and feeding people at The Salvation Army on this special day is one way to give back.
"It is so wonderful that Ishe Smith will come to serve our residents and guests," said Phillip Hollon, Director of Social Services for the non-profit. "Our community is so generous and he is just another example of that generosity in action!"
