"I think he is a little bit like Zab Judah, but at the same time, I think he is very very predictable. He does the exact same thing over and over and over. It won't take Floyd long to figure him out at all. In 2 or 3 rounds, Floyd will have him figured out at the most if not less," stated Jeff Mayweather, world-class trainer and uncle of undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, who shared his thoughts on the announcement of the long-awaited showdown with Manny Pacquiao. Check it out!
PC: Huge announcement was just made. Your nephew, Floyd Mayweather, will be fighting Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd from the MGM Grand in Vegas. What are your thoughts overall on this thing finally getting done?
JM: It's good for boxing. It's the fight that everybody been wanting to see for whatever reason and now everybody can shut their mouth, stop talking this and talking that, and now they can put their money where their mouth is.
PC: It was never an issue of one of them being afraid of the other one, but there were a lot of I's and T's that had to be crossed to get this thing done and it finally happened.
JM: You are 100% right. It took a lot more than just two guys signing a contract. Networks had a problem with it and of course a lot of negotiations had to go on as well. It took a long time to get there, but it's finally here.
PC: Stylistically, can you compare Manny Pacquiao to any other of Floyd's opponents? Would you say he is Zab Judah like?
JM: I think he is a little bit like Zab Judah, but at the same time, I think he is very very predictable. He does the exact same thing over and over and over. It won't take Floyd long to figure him out at all. In 2 or 3 rounds, Floyd will have him figured out at the most if not less.
PC: You will always have your complainers that say the fight would have been better 5 years ago and so on. Twitter blew up. I hear the MGM sold out in 15 minutes on rooms, so the fight is still in high demand. Do you share those sentiments?
JM: Yeah! Don't get me wrong, it's a fight that everybody has been clamoring for for years now and after it's over, you will have your people say it should have happened back then. No, it should have happened when it's happening. Like I said, it was a situation where Manny refused to take a blood test and that killed the fight. So yes, anybody that say it should have happened, yes, but at the end of the day, it's still happening. Obviously it's still the biggest fight in boxing. It's a fight that's withstood the time; even till this day, you still have people clamoring over it, so it's not too late.
PC: Is there anything you would like to see Floyd do differently in preparation for this fight that maybe he got away from, or even something as small as seclude the gym like he used to?
JM: I think that this time around, the gym should be closed because you just got too many random people coming in when it's a fight of this magnitude. You have crazy people coming in and everybody need to be monitored.. Everybody!
PC: We will obviously get a lot more with you, but I appreciate the time. Anything you wanna add before I let you go?
JM: I know a lot of people will be looking for rooms. Tell them to hit me on my Facebook page and I will hook them up (laughing).
