JEFF MAYWEATHER IMPRESSED BY KING MO HEADING INTO CHEICK KONGO CLASH; INSISTS SIZE WON'T MATTER

"I watched him spar and he looked awesome. Everything that we talked about even before I got here, he worked on it and I got a chance to see it put to action in sparring and I've been impressedÂ… He is fighting a big guy, but at the same time, it's a situation where it's not so much about trying to match the guy in weight or anything like that," stated world-class trainer Jeff Mayweather, who was extremely pleased with what he saw during training camp with Bellator light heavyweight King Mo Lawal as he gets set to take on heavyweight Cheick Kongo tonight at Bellator 134. Check out what else he had to say!

PC: You got King Mo coming up against Cheick Kongo in his first fight at heavyweight. You weren't able to spend the entire camp with him, but when you got to Florida with him, did you like what you saw?

JM: When I got there, I got a chance to watch Mo work, and our first day, our timing was a little bit off, but it didn't take no time to get back on; right back on track. I watched him spar and he looked awesome. Everything that we talked about even before I got here, he worked on it and I got a chance to see it put to action in sparring and I've been impressed.

PC: Mo doesn't feel that weight is an issue. Do you share those same sentiments or did you want to see him hit a certain number on the scale?

JM: No, I want him to be comfortable. It's not about being bigger because maybe if he put on too much weight, he may slow himself down. I don't want him to be bulky or anything like that. I want him to be able to walk in the cage feeling comfortable, having speed, and being able to do the things that he was able to do at light heavyweight. I think that's just as important as anything. Of course you wanna put a little weight on. He can't weigh what he would weigh fighting a light heavyweight. He is fighting a big guy, but at the same time, it's a situation where it's not so much about trying to match the guy in weight or anything like that because if he did that, the fight would basically be won on the scale.

PC: You were recently in Canada. What was that experience like and what was the purpose of being out there?

JM: We went out there and did a little training camp. I'm going to be doing a lot of work in Canada, so I'll be going back and forth and we have even been talking about the possibility of even opening a Mayweather Gym out there. It was a big deal. It was a great experience for everybody involved.

PC: You recently started working with DeMarcus Corley. What has the work with him been like and what are your thoughts on "Chop Chop" at this stage in his career?

JM: He's an awesome fighter to work with. He is one of them guys that I think that even at his age now, he can probably win a championship against any of the champions. Of course I would say Terence Crawford is the cream of the crop at that weight, but still, I think "Chop Chop" could probably still give him a good fight. But all of the other guys in the weight class, I think "Chop Chop" has a great chance of becoming a world champion at lightweight. At lightweight, it's a weight class where he is stronger, he is a better puncher, and that's where he's been. We have been working together and he's been dominant.

PC: Kevin Newman is another one of your fighters. What's next for him?

JM: I'm sure with the fight announced, he will be in Vegas working with Floyd. So as far as his immediate future, he will probably be with Floyd getting Floyd ready for Manny.

PC: I appreciate the time my man, I'll let you enjoy the fights. Is there anything else you want to add?
