"It just gives me more motivation to go out there and make Bellator's decisions look good as well as put the rest of the division on alert. I'm coming for that belt...I have to be ready everywhere, but especially on the ground. I think that is his best chance of winning, so I will be ready if it goes to the floor...tune in Friday night and don't blink," stated Bellator bantamweight LC Davis, who talked about his upcoming clash this Friday with Hideo Tokoro at Bellator 135. Check out what else he had to say!
PC: LC, how has training been for your fight this Friday night against Hideo Tokoro?
LCD: This training camp was great! I had a lot of people come help me train, like Josh Neer, James Krause, Anthony Sharkbait, Cody Peterson, and all my guys at ATTHD. I also went to Florida and trained with the best team in the world at American Top Team HQ, so I am ready.
PC: You have really seemed motivated by your move to bantamweight and even went as far as saying you should have fought your entire career here. Why was this move so important moving forward with your career?
LCD: As the sport has evolved, I had to evolve with it. I wrestled my whole college career at 133 pounds and was always small for 155 and 145, so I had to make the move to my most competitive weight.
PC: You seem very comfortable with the cut too, which is always a good thing.
LCD: Yeah! The cut isn't bad at all. Travis Conley, my nutritionist, and Garden of Life supplements have made it a breeze.
PC: You have won 6 of your last 7 and the lone loss was a split decision loss at a catchweight. Other than the weight drop, what would you credit as the key to your success and consistency?
LCD: Just to my hard work, sacrifices, dedication, and determination. I'm always trying to improve because if you are not getting better, you are getting worse.
PC: How instrumental has adding Travis Conley been to your team?
LCD: I really cannot say enough about the guy. He is my "everything" coach. He has improved my game leaps and bounds.
PC: Does it change your mentality or mindset at all going from the off-TV preliminary card to the co-main event?
LCD: Not at all. If anything, it just gives me more motivation to go out there and make Bellator's decisions look good as well as put the rest of the division on alert. I'm coming for that belt!
PC: Initially, you weren't moved by having Tokoro as an opponent. After researching him, you were satisfied. Are you at the stage where every fight has to mean something because you are on a title hunt, therefore you just wanted to make sure you had a formidable opponent?
LCD: Yeah, that is it! It is important to win and to win against names that matter. I want to fight the guys that will get me closer to the belt.
PC: Being that you are on the card with the bantamweight title fight being featured, what type of statement would you like to make against Tokoro?
LCD: The type of statement that says, "Geez, this LC cat is for real! I'd like to see him fighting for the belt soon!" (Laughing)
PC: Other than a wealth of experience, what are some of the things you feel you have to nullify against Tokoro in order to walk away successful?
LCD: I have to be ready everywhere, but especially on the ground. I think that is his best chance of winning, so I will be ready if it goes to the floor.
PC: I wish you the best of luck on Friday night. We will talk again afterwards for sure. Is there anything else you want to add before I let you go?
LCD: Thank you! Nah, not really. Just tune in Friday night and don't blink!
