"The next opponent will be Chris Algieri. We'll be taking that fight at 147 pounds," stated former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan, who recently confirmed that he's targeting fellow former jr. welterweight champion Chris Algieri as his next opponent. Khan made the announcement on the official YouTube channel of his wife, Faryal Makhdoom.
"He's from New York. He's had 21 fights. Only lost one fight. He's the same height as me. He's 5'10". Ranked number 8 in the world. You know, his last fight, which he lost, which is the only fight he lost, was against Manny Pacquiao," Khan explained as he discussed his preference to face Algieri. "So yeah, we're looking at fighting in, I like New York. I think New York is a great venue for me. Having that fight in New York will be good for me because of the UK fans."
Although no official date or venue has been confirmed, and it's still unclear if Algieri has signed off on the bout, Khan has mentioned May 30 as his preferred return date. Check out the video below to see what else Khan had to say about Algieri.
