"Being a boxer myself more than a puncher when I was a fighter, I still favor Floyd. I think Floyd is still the more skilled and obviously has took less damage. He hasn't been stopped. He's had some close fights, but for the majority, he's pretty much been a dominant force," stated world-class trainer and former world champion John David Jackson, who shared his thoughts on the highly-anticipated May 2 mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Check out what else he had to say!
JOHN DAVID JACKSON ON MAYWEATHER VS. PACQUIAO:
Pacquiao was able to come back against Rios, Bradley, and Algieri after the Marquez knockout loss and that is a big accomplishment for him going in against Floyd. I still pick Floyd, but there are certain things that Manny does that could bother Floyd. Manny throws a lot of shots and a lot of combinations. Manny has to not look for the perfect shot. Hit him in his chest, hit him in his arms, and maybe even his body. Hit what you can. Floyd is older now. His body's not as fresh as it once was, so if you do the work early, you may not win those rounds, but during the second half of the fight, Floyd may not be able to muster up enough energy from taking the beating to the body to keep Manny off of him.
Manny is a very smart fighter, but his defense is not there and he's off balance a lot. His defense is bad and he's really off balance when he fires his shots and that's why I picked him to get knocked out when he fought Marquez. If you remember, I picked Marquez to knock him out because not only is his defense bad, but his balance is bad as well. He can't do that with Floyd either because Floyd could time him and catch him. So it depends on how much Manny can do to offset Floyd. Floyd is going to do what Floyd does best. It's not like the fight he had when he fought...the kid that passed away, Diego Corrales. He is just boxing right now, but he's still smart in terms of being a fighter and he's always gonna rely on his defense because he don't want to get hit.
It's all in what Manny does and what kind of a game plan Freddie can develop. Freddie is confident he can come up with the game plan to do it. We will see. I still think Floyd will win the fight because Floyd is the better fighter at this stage and throughout their careers.
