According to reports out of Puerto Rico, WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto will defend his title against former middleweight champion Daniel Geale on June 6 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Although no official confirmation has been made, sources say the fight will take place at a catchweight of 157 pounds and will presumably be televised by HBO.
This will be Cotto's first defense of the WBC middleweight title since winning it nearly year ago in a dominant 10th round stoppage of former champion Sergio Martinez. It will also be Cotto's debut with Roc Nation Sports, who he recently announced a partnership with that will reportedly net him upwards of $50 million for his next three fights. Geale is coming off of a 12-round unanimous decision victory over fellow Australian Jarrod Fletcher back in December of 2014. In the fight prior to that, he was stopped in three rounds by undefeated WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.
