LUCAS MATTHYSSE EXCLUSIVE:

While the general public is anticipating the mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, the hardcore boxing community is currently excited for a different reason. Hard-hitting Argentine Lucas Matthysse and the relentless Ruslan Provodnikov will step into the ring this Saturday night, and if there was ever guaranteed excitement for a fight, this bout is it. The fight was already slated to be a Fight of the Year candidate as soon as it was announced. Two come-forward fighters known for their punching power and willingness to go to war. It's a recipe for something special and it's the type of fight you tell all of your friends, especially the ones that you're trying to get into boxing, about.

For Lucas Matthysse, this is a chance to not only earn a big win, but also to return to the top of a division he once ruled before losing to Danny Garcia on September of 2013. While we all expect a war to break out as soon as the bell rings in this fight, Matthysse surprisingly also wants to take a different approach. "Try to make it an intelligent fight. I will try to make it an intelligent fight. But the truth is, he's a fighter that attacks and we're going to give it everything we got. We've prepared very well for this fight and will be ready for anything," Matthysse would say during an exclusive interview with FightHype just days before the showdown.

It's hard to envision this fight going the distance as you get the sense that we'll get a Hagler-Hearns violent affair that will be fast but furious as opposed to a measured fight. When Matthysse was asked what he felt the difference would be in this fight, he didn't hesitate to bring up his power. "I think I hit very hard, so surely he'll have to respect my power. That is what's going to do it in this fight," said Matthysse.

While both fighters are known for putting their opponents on the deck, only one of them has actually tasted the canvas. Recently, Provodnikov mentioned how Matthysse is used to going down and that he will make sure he goes down again in this fight. Asked for his response, Lucas repliedl, "No, no. Those things are part of the sport. You may go down or not, but now we're going to make him taste the canvas for the first time. He'll go down."

When this fight was presented to Matthysse, he said he was happy with it and it was the type of fight he wanted. He only wants to fight the best and he feels he's doing that by taking on Provodnikov, who is a fighter not many people are eager to get in the ring with. Tomorrow night, the boxing world is expecting a special affair and Matthysse plans to deliver a great fight. "Yes, it's a great fight. We are both fighters that leave it all in the ring and it will be a very good fight. I have seen a few of his fights. He looks like a boxer that's strong, but we're prepared for him. We're going to be victorious," Matthysse added.
