NICK KISNER:

"Things are going good. We've been working hard. I have never been past 6 rounds before, but we are very, very confident in our training and I'm going to shock a lot of people on Friday...I'm a stylistic nightmare for Lateef Kayode and that's definitely what I plan on coming to do," stated cruiserweight contender Nick Kisner, who talked about his upcoming clash this Friday with Lateef Kayode. Check it out!

PC: Friday night, you will be taking on Lateef Kayode. How has preparation been for this fight?

NK: Things are going good. We've been working hard. I have never been past 6 rounds before, but we are very, very confident in our training and I'm going to shock a lot of people on Friday.

PC: Obviously you train hard and you spar hard to prepare for these fights. Do you feel like, in your mind, it's going to feel a lot different during the fight if it goes past 6 or do you feel like what you put into the gym will play out in the fight?

NK: I think what I put into the gym is going to play out in the fight. I also think when your adrenaline is pumping the night of the fight, every round feels the same. The 1st and 2nd round will feel like the 5th and 6th. Once I hit the 6th round mark and we're going into the 7th, by that time, and I'm done with the 7th and 8th, there is only 2 more. So even if I'm pushing being a little tired past the 6th, in my opinion, I don't think I'm really going to have a problem doing it.

PC: Lateef hasn't fought since last September and you fought in March. Do you think that could help you as well; maybe get in there and test his conditioning a little bit?

NK: Yeah, definitely. And he hasn't fought at cruiserweight in I believe 3 years now. I think it might take a little bit of a toll on him late in the fight. I could be wrong. I'm preparing for the best Lateef Kayode. I'm depending on him staying on me like he does. I seen a lot of tapes on him and I believe my slick moving style is definitely going to give him trouble.

PC: I was going to ask you, is your moniker "Slick" just because it rhymes with Nick or are you a slick boxer?

NK: That's what I am. I'm a slick moving boxer type and from what I have seen on tape, that's what gives him trouble. In my opinion, I'm a stylistic nightmare for Lateef Kayode and that's definitely what I plan on coming to do. I'm going to be my normal "Slick" Nick self and just let things to fall into place.

PC: How do you fight this as if it's just a regular fight and not let the magnitude of the fight and the stage of being televised influence your performance?

NK: At the end of the day, no matter who is boxing or if it's on television, it's just a square with me and him in it, just like every other fight. It really doesn't make a difference. It's another guy trying to beat me up, I'm trying to beat him up, we're in a square ring, and at the end of the day, it's no different than any other fight. It is the biggest fight of my life, but I've always dreamed on being on this stage, so now it's just an accomplishment being on this stage. Now that I have this opportunity to be on this stage, I'm going to take full advantage of it.

PC: When you got the call that it was Lateef Kayode, what was the thought process for you?

NK: I didn't get the call. I asked for the fight.

PC: Why him?

NK: I seen something. In my opinion, Lateef Kayode at one time was the most well-known cruiserweight on American television, So I believe that me beating Lateef Kayode will get me a world title shot. I gotta win this fight if I want to get to the big stage. And why try to sugarcoat or beat around the bush about it? I don't care that I'm 24 years old, I don't care if I never been past 6 rounds, if I can get to a world title shot by beating Lateef Kayode, why wouldn't I do it?

PC: Kayode gets a lot of warnings during fights, some point deductions; he's a rough guy in there. That not only takes a toll on you physically, but also mentally. Do you feel you have prepared yourself both mentally and physically to deal with his tactics?

NK: I can get dirty myself. I ain't worried about that. Lateef can do whatever he wants; he's just a human being as much as me. Whatever he does, I can do back to him, so I'm not worried about that whatsoever.

PC: Do you expect at some point to have to withstand a little bit and then eventually the storm will calm or do you feel you can outbox him from start to finish?

NK: I think I can outbox him from the outset. I really do. I think the longer the fight goes on, the more one-sided you're going to start seeing it become due to the fact that I'm a very good adjuster. I really think you're going to see me outbox him right from the outset. Everybody is right there for the first 5 rounds; it's the last 5 rounds where everybody tires and just pushes through it. I believe with no doubt I'm going to be able to outbox him in those first 5 rounds. And during the last 5 rounds, when both fighters are pushing through it, I think I'm definitely going to be able to take over that.

PC: What does this fight mean to you?

NK: It means the world. A win of this magnitude is just a dream for every fighter that has ever put on a pair of gloves to reach this stage; fighting a major fight in the main event on national television. This is a fight where I consider myself one win away from fighting for a title. Every fighter always dreams about that and it's definitely a big, big deal to me and beating Lateef Kayode will definitely prove that I'm right at the top with some of the best cruiserweights in the world. It's something that I've dreamed my whole life about doing and now that I have the opportunity, I'm going to make the most of it.

PC: For the fans who have never seen you fight before, what can they expect?

NK: They can expect one slick white kid. You're going to see something that you're not used to seeing. And I'm just keeping it real, white kids are normally...it's just different. I'm going to bring something I think a lot of boxing people never seen before. I think of myself as sort of a Paul Spadafora; slick white kid that can box. I think that Friday night, I think I'm going to shock a lot of people by bringing a slick style. I'm fast and I'm a very intelligent fighter. I have a big amateur career and I just feel like the time is right. And here is the way I look at it, what do I have to lose? If I lose, I lose to Lateef Kayode. I'm the underdog here. If I lose, so what? I go right back to the drawing board, I have a great record still and I jump back in and try to get another win. I have nothing to lose here. And when you have a guy that has nothing to lose, he's fearless. I just really believe that I'm going to shock a lot of people and upset Lateef Kayode on Friday night.

PC: I look forward to the fight, I appreciate your honesty, and I wish you the best of luck. Is there anything else you would like to add before I let you go?

NK: Thank you to all of my fans, friends, and supporters. This is a big opportunity for me, the biggest of my life, and I'm going to make the most of it for everybody and myself.
